Fallon creatives Laura Clark and Elliott Starr have launched I Want A Job In Advertisinga bare bones online ad school. The school aims to give a diverse talent pool the opportunity to pursue a career as an advertising creative.

Here's what they had to say:

Creative Circle reports that just 9.9% of staff at Britain’s creative agencies are from BAME backgrounds.

With the average student debt in 2016 at £44,000 (Financial Times) it's no surprise.

Combine this with increasing London rent and living costs and you realise that the ad industry has become a career choice for the privileged few.

The result is that there is a huge talent pool that's going elsewhere.

Ad schools do an amazing job. (We attended one and only have positive things to say.)

But not everyone can afford them. That's why we set up the website.

There was once a time when you could get a job in the post-room of an agency, work hard, work smart and one day be an ECD.

This has produced some of the industry’s greatest and grittiest.

It's sad that this is a dwindling reality. But it doesn't need to be.

We have been dumping 'things we wish someone had told us' into a word document for years.

We share it with colleges once a year before they make the leap to London.

We thought it was time we put it to better use. So we did.

I want a Job in Advertising is a “minimum-effective-dose” for getting started as a creative in the advertising industry.

It won't teach you as much as an ad-school and never could.

But if that isn’t an option for you, then this is something and something, is always better than nothing.

Once you complete the chapters you can email us and we will partner you with an industry mentor who will help you to start putting a book together.

The website also includes a reading list which we recommend everyone work their way through.

You can find it the website here.
